About this work

This engraved reproduction shows a violent abduction scene set before classical columns, with armored men seizing women while onlookers react in the foreground and background. A horse and a seated figure on a cloud-like rise frame the composition. The print reproduces Luca Giordano's painting Der Raub der Sabinerinnen, with the French and Italian captions identifying the Royal Gallery in Dresden as its source.
