About this work
A pencil-like lithograph shows a column of helmeted soldiers marching across a bare field under a dark, smoky band of sky, with a mustached officer at the left. In the foreground a small child lies face down beside a toy wooden rifle, and the handwritten caption below reads that he had threatened them with his little wooden gun. The work is by Jean Veber and dated 1914.
