About this work

A painted postcard shows a bearded man in dark clerical dress with a Red Cross armband holding a crucifix toward a wounded man lying on a stretcher, while a building burns with smoke in the background. The printed caption below reads that the rabbi brings the crucifix requested by a dying Catholic and is killed by a shell an instant later, dated August 1914.
