A pencil drawing on blue-green paper shows a narrow Paris street receding in perspective, lined with tall building facades, a sign reading Hôtel de l'Espérance, and wall-mounted street lamps. Handwritten annotations in the lower margin record the street as rue Saint-Denis, March 1884, and note demolition ordered by the municipal council, as cataloged by Jules-Adolphe Chauvet.
