About this work

A watercolor and pencil drawing shows a street corner with a cream-colored building, a red-tiled lower annex, and a shop sign reading Maison de Santé and Maternité. A covered carriage and a cast-iron street lamp stand in the foreground. Handwritten French annotations in the lower right and upper margin describe the maternity clinic at the corner of boulevard de Port-Royal and rue Saint-Jacques, dated August 1886, and note the 14th arrondissement. The work is attributed to Jules-Adolphe Chauvet.
