About this work
A red-chalk style print shows a seated shepherd in a broad-brimmed hat resting among grazing sheep beneath a large tree. Wooden posts linked by ropes stand on a mound behind him, and a small building appears on a distant slope. The inscription dedicates the work to Monsieur Pierre, Premier Peintre du Roi, and gives Demarteau as engraver, with J. B. Huet credited as the designer, dated 1770.
