About this work

This print by Jean Veber shows two illustration projects for the score of Jules Massenet's Thaïs, with a large colored composition on the right and a smaller study with an inscription on the left. The main panel depicts a haloed, bare-chested standing man against a blue sky, beside a reclining woman and a row of lions, framed by the word THAÏS in decorative lettering. The smaller study includes a dancing female figure, a green panel with sphinx-headed supports, and a handwritten dedication signed by the artist.
