About this work
An engraved portrait shows an older man in profile, seated on a carved wooden chair beside a window and a stone wall. He rests a tricorn hat and an open book with the printed heading "LES LOIX" on a table, and ships are visible through the window. The print is a 1781 work by Louis Carrogis de Carmontelle, published in Paris.
