About this work

This printed magazine cover for Musica, dated April 1904, shows a photographic portrait of a man with voluminous curly hair and a moustache, set within an ornate art nouveau frame. A small oval vignette in the upper left depicts a woman playing violin, and a decorative ribbon and musical score motif runs down the left side. The caption identifies the sitter as Paderewski, described as the most famous pianist in the world who had just performed at the Concerts Colonne, and credits a portrait by Alma-Tadema.
