About this work
A colored drawing shows the ornate doorway of a shop at 16 rue des Archives in the 3rd arrondissement of Paris, with lettering reading Ancienne Maison Noulet, Jacob Sr, Equipements Militaires, and the name Felix Bourguerand above the entrance. A well-dressed man in a top hat and a woman in a bustled dress stand at the threshold, and a hanging sign advertises Jacob as a manufacturer of military equipment. The work is signed and dated 1883 by Jules-Adolphe Chauvet.
