About this work
The Sleep of Venus and Cupid by Constance Mayer depicts a reclining female nude asleep on a dark cloth beneath red draperies, with a winged Cupid nestled against her and a group of cherubs peering from behind. A bow and quiver lie at the lower right, and a gold drape covers the figure's legs.
