About this work
The painting shows a singer in a white costume with one arm raised, standing at the edge of a theatre stage in front of a red curtain, while a dim audience and orchestra pit occupy the lower foreground. The loose, sketchy brushwork renders the stage lights and painted scenery in warm ochre and yellow tones. The work is by Max Slevogt, dated 1902 in the signature at lower right, and is titled Die Champagner-Arie aus Don Giovanni (d'Andrade an der Rampe).
