About this work

This painting depicts the Entombment of Christ, with a muscular nude body supported by a bearded older man while a younger, bare-backed figure grips the legs. Hooded mourners and onlookers in red and ochre robes crowd the dark, shadowed composition, and a horseman and small figures appear in the distant background.
