About this work

A colour lithograph by Jean Veber titled L'Arbre à drapeau shows a tree whose branches bear many small blue, white and red French tricolour flags, growing from a mound of dark, hatched earth. A single large tricolour flag on a pole forms part of the trunk, and its folds suggest a human profile. The caption beneath reads that it was put in the dung and has grown.
