About this work
A watercolour view of a large natural cave with layered rock walls, exposed tree roots spilling over its roof, and a paved path running toward the dark interior. Two small figures in period dress sit on a stone bench at the left, while stone seats line the cavern floor. The work is attributed to Samuel Hieronymus Grimm and dated 1790.
