About this work

A large painted scene shows a mounted military review on an open field, with cavalry officers and infantry in dark and blue uniforms arranged before a crowd of formally dressed spectators. In the foreground, a richly draped platform with gilded columns and red fringed hangings holds gentlemen in frock coats and top hats, while colorful flags and a distant grandstand fill the background.
