About this work
A pen and wash sketch shows a man in a long coat and trousers striding forward while raising a small flag in one hand and carrying a bundle in the other, with a top hat tossed into the air above him. Handwritten French notes in the upper left give the date July 1871, and a caption at the bottom reads that he is no longer a prisoner but the guards are still there.
