About this work

This pen and ink drawing is a decorative program sketch by Paul Fischer, dated 1905, for the centenary of Hans Christian Andersen's birth. A central cartouche bears the dates 1805 and 1905 around an interlaced monogram framed by a leafy wreath and ribbon bow. The surrounding border combines rose vines with scenes of figures, a soldier, a couple dancing, a child with an umbrella, and swans on water.
