About this work
A painted landscape shows a wooded roadside where a peasant leads a grey-and-brown horse beside a cart, while a rider on a laden mule sits among bundles of branches. In the foreground a seated woman in a blue bodice rests near a child, and distant figures walk across the open plain under a dramatic cloudy sky.
