About this work

An engraved portrait of a woman in an elaborate jeweled costume, with a large lace ruff, lace cuffs, and a folding fan held in her hand. A crown rests on a draped ledge at the upper right, and an inscription beneath the image identifies the sitter as Maria Austriaca, wife of Ferdinand III. The print is attributed to Anthony van Dyck as painter.
