About this work

The painting shows a group of figures gathered on the ground, with a young man in a white shirt and fur-trimmed hat intently dealing playing cards while a boy in a red coat holds a hand of cards. An elderly man with a cane stands at left, and a woman with a tambourine and a hatted onlooker appear behind them against a dark, cloudy sky.
