About this work

A seated nude woman raises both arms toward a cluster of dark grapes hanging from a leafy vine that spreads across the upper left of the composition. Her legs extend across a rust-red drapery while a white cloth covers part of her lap, set before a large tree and a distant blue landscape. This oil painting, Erigone by Jean-François de Troy, dates from 1721.
