About this work
This painting shows a dense row of red brick back buildings with rectangular windows framed in green and blue, rising under a pale blue sky with several chimneys along the roofline. The thick, loose brushwork and flattened planes emphasize the rhythm of windows and facades. The work is titled Back buildings, is attributed to Walter Ophey, and is dated 1921.
