About this work
This etching by Georges-Henri Manesse, dated 1906, shows a corner building at 284 rue Saint-Jacques with steep roofs, dormer windows and an iron gate beneath a stone archway. A seated woman sits beside a street stall with baskets of produce, and a handwritten inscription below the image notes that this was the entrance to the Carmel in the seventeenth century.
