About this work
This etching by Georges-Henri Manesse, dated 1906, shows a shadowed stone archway opening onto a sunlit street, with a woman standing at the right edge beside the arch. Dense hatching renders the cobblestones, shuttered windows, and weathered facades of the old buildings. The handwritten French inscription beneath the image identifies the Rue St-Paul and Passage St-Pierre and notes the former cemetery and church nearby.
