About this work

This etching shows a cobbled street lined with two-storey stone houses with shuttered windows, a lamp post, and pedestrians walking along the pavement. Bare trees and a low wall frame the scene beneath a cloudy sky. The handwritten inscription beneath the image identifies the building as the house where Jean-Jacques Rousseau lived during his stay at the Eaux de Passy, and the print is dated 1906 and signed by Georges-Henri Manesse.
