About this work
This etching depicts a narrow stone staircase with a carved wooden balustrade and a glazed door at its side, shown in strong light and shadow. A handwritten French caption below identifies the setting as the staircase of the furnished Hôtel de Francfort on Rue d'Argout leading to Charlotte Corday's room. The print is attributed to Georges-Henri Manesse and dated 1906.
