A wash drawing by Pierre-Antoine Demachy shows the clearing of the Louvre colonnade with a monumental classical facade at center. At left, a ruined Gothic arch stands among fallen stones, while at right a partly demolished building collapses into heaps of rubble. Workers, a horse and cart, and onlookers occupy the foreground, with a domed building visible in the distance.
