About this work
This hand-coloured lithograph by Thomas Shotter Boys, dated 1839, shows the exterior of the Sainte-Chapelle in Paris, with its tall spire and pointed Gothic windows. In the foreground, cut stone blocks, wooden scaffolding and a horse with a cart suggest ongoing building work, while pedestrians and townhouses frame the street scene.
