About this work
A watercolor and ink view of a fortified town, shown as a retrospective composition titled Le Temple en 1450. A long crenellated stone wall with bastion towers runs diagonally across the foreground, with a cart, walkers and a lone rider on the road beside it. Beyond the wall rise a gothic church with a tall spire and a cluster of tiled-roof houses and gardens.
