About this work
This thickly textured painting shows a pale, hazy landscape beneath a heavy sky, with rounded hills, dark rocky outcrops, and a band of water or flat ground along the horizon. The surface is built up with palette-knife and brush strokes in creams, pinks, grey-blues, and ochres. The work is attributed to Constant Permeke and is titled as a Devonshire landscape dated 1917.
