About this work

A handwritten letter by Édouard Manet, dated 1879 and headed Bellevue, is decorated with two small watercolor studies: a pair of plums at the top and a pair of cherries below the text. The fruits are rendered in loose purple, red and blue washes with soft grey shadows beneath them.
