About this work
A dense engraved battle scene shows a massive armored war elephant towering over fallen and struggling horsemen, with archers in a howdah on its back. Crumbling towers and a smoky sky frame the chaotic melee, rendered in fine hatched lines. The print is Gustave Doré's 1866 work titled Death of Eleazer, published by Wikimedia Commons.
