This painting shows a busy market scene with vendors selling fruit, vegetables, game birds, poultry and a hanging hare beneath a row of gabled houses. A harbor with masted ships and a distant hilltop castle appears on the right, and women in black dresses with white ruffs move among the stalls. The work is attributed to Lucas van Valckenborch and is titled Allegory of Autumn: A fruit and vegetable stall above the Weinmarkt in Frankfurt.
