About this work

A bearded scholar in a dark fur-trimmed robe writes at a draped table while a younger man in a blue doublet, red hose and feathered cap leans beside him, raising one finger as if speaking. The cramped study behind them holds a globe, a skull, a glass vessel and carved figures on the shelves.
