About this work

A colored lithographic print shows the Engel and Wolf brewery complex at Fountain Green, with multi-story stone buildings, a smoking chimney, and a steam locomotive pulling passenger cars along a rail line below. Horse riders, carriages, and workers with barrels populate the scene, set against rocky cliffs, a river with a rowboat, and tall evergreens. The print is attributed to Augustus Köllner and dated 1855, and it advertises the brewery's lager beer and its cut-rock vaults.
