A pencil study shows a young child seen from behind, seated with the body turned and one arm raised toward the head. Loose, feathery contour lines and areas of light hatching suggest the figure, while the bare feet and a looping sketched form near the right edge remain only partly defined. The handwritten inscription 'Ostermalm' and '25 Oct 1890' appears at lower left alongside the artist's monogram.
