About this work

A charcoal drawing shows a man's face and shoulders turned toward the viewer with a direct, wide-eyed gaze, a full dark beard and moustache, and a furrowed brow. Soft tonal shading and vertical hatched strokes fill the dark background, and the sitter's face stands out in lighter tones.
