An oil study on a brown ground shows a large night-blooming cereus flower with pale white petals, a yellow stamen cluster at its center, and long reddish-pink sepals radiating outward. A segment of green cactus stem extends diagonally toward the lower right. The date 1871 is inscribed in the lower right corner.
