About this work

Evelyn De Morgan's City of Light depicts a barefoot woman in a flowing blue gown and yellow sash, shielding her eyes as she moves through a rocky cave toward a brilliant golden city glowing in the distance. The craggy stone passage contrasts with the luminous vista beyond, and a blue sky with clouds appears at the upper left.
