About this work

This engraved print, titled Stormy Weather, shows a rocky coast under a turbulent sky, with waves breaking violently over the shoreline. A stone tower stands on a cliff at right, and two figures work with nets on the rocks in the foreground while two sailing ships ride the rough sea beyond. The print is attributed to Joseph Vernet and dated 1750, and its inscription is dedicated to Vialy, Peintre du Roi.
