About this work
This engraved print shows a coastal landscape with a fortified citadel perched on a rocky cliff at the right. Sailing ships and small boats sit on calm water at the left, while fishermen work near the shore and two women walk with a child and a dog beneath a large tree. The title Le Fort Escarpé and the attribution to Joseph Vernet, dated 1750, appear in the lower margin.
