About this work

This black and white engraving shows a broad lake scene under a sunburst sky, with hunters firing at flocks of birds from the shore while dogs work the water's edge. Rowboats with passengers and a tree-lined bank frame the composition, and a ruined structure stands on the distant hill. The print is titled View of Lake Geneva, attributed to Joseph Vernet, dated 1750.
