About this work
This engraved print shows a turbulent sea under a heavy storm sky, with a damaged ship in the distance and a tower on a rocky outcrop. In the foreground, men struggle to pull a capsized boat and a sailor clings to the surf amid breaking waves. The print is a reproduction of a painting by Joseph Vernet, engraved by A. Zingg, as noted on the plate.
