About this work

This black and white engraving depicts the Descent from the Cross, with a bearded man on a ladder lowering a body while others support it. Grieving women kneel and sit in the foreground, and a mounted rider with a plumed helmet stands at right near another crucified figure. The Latin inscription below reads "O vos qui transitis per viam attendite et videte si est dolor sicut dolor meus," and the print is attributed to François de Poilly after Charles Le Brun.
