About this work

This etching titled The Pirate's Council by William Strang shows a crowded tavern interior with a group of men gathered around a wooden table. Bottles, glasses and bread sit on the table while several figures in hats and loose shirts lean in toward the central action, and a figure in a wig stands at the right edge. The fine crosshatched lines create a dim, smoky atmosphere typical of the medium.
