About this work
A woman lies asleep in a canopied bed draped with pale curtains, her head resting on white pillows beside a small bouquet of white flowers on a dark side table. A red coverlet spreads across the foreground, and a carved wooden chair stands near a wall decorated with a winged figure, while a bright window opens onto a sunlit room beyond. This is George Cochran Lambdin's The Last Sleep, dated 1858.
