About this work

An engraved print titled The Otter Hound by Samuel Howitt shows a hound stepping into shallow water beside a grassy bank beneath a large overhanging tree. Reeds, grasses, and water lilies frame the stream, and the dog's raised tail and intent gaze suggest the hunt. The inscription at the bottom notes that it was republished by F. J. Mason in 1834.
