About this work

A hand-coloured lithograph shows several sailing warships engaged in a naval battle on open water, with clouds of gunsmoke drifting between the hulls. A French tricolour flies from one vessel while a British ensign is visible on another, and a distant ship sails at the right edge. The print is titled La Prudente and La Cybelle, attributed to Jean-Baptiste Henri Durand-Brager, and dated 1844.
