About this work

A colour caricature of a bearded man with white hair and a long, full beard stands in a grey suit and waistcoat, one hand in his pocket and the other holding his beard, with a thin cane tucked under his arm. The figure is rendered in soft grey and tan tones against a plain background, with a cast shadow on the ground. This Vanity Fair print, signed with the monogram T, was dated 1 May 1880 and is attributed to Théobald Chartran.
